Do you judge people on the train or bus by what they are reading? Do you
ever look to see what people are reading? I'm always curious. For example,
this morning on the el I saw this selection of reading materials in my
area (imagine the people who read them.)
Dostoevsky's Crime and Punishment
People magazine
An Uncanny X-Men comic
The Wall Street Journal
A book by Joan Collins
and the Microsoft Window Me Instruction Manual
And then there was yesterday when I saw people on the train reading the
following:
My Pants and the Reason Not to Remove Them in Public, a pamphlet
by Burl Ives
Momentum, My Face and Your Fist by Teddy B. Pendergras
Testicles Reaching Mars, that new sci bestseller from Theodore
Sturgeon
Damocles and the Sword in the Underpants, a kid's story by Tug
McGraw
Silly Goose Wets his Nappy, a quarterly publication from Harvard
and The Pamela Anderson Story, an autobiographical pop-up book.
So what's next, folks? After all this. Enlightenment. Or extinction. (?)
