| 11-18-01 This alone is an indictment of Capitalism: The Green Sea Turtle, a species that has been in existence since the time of the dinosaurs, is on the brink of extinction. The numbers were dramatically reduced world-wide by over-hunting (outlawed in the U.S. under the Endangered Species Act in 1978) however, the remaining animals are dying off due to continued hunting outside the U.S., habitat destruction (caused by pollution, deforestation, agriculture, coastal development, mining of sand and coral, sewage dumping) and global warming. Most of the remaining Green Sea Turtles are dying of an infectious disease called fibropapillomatosis that is spreading into most of the ocean's sea turtles. The only thing that could stop this extinction is if the world suddenly stopped treating the environment as Capital for production, for grinding into the machine and spitting out Coca-Cola, Barbie Dolls, Automobiles, Coal, Oil, etc. etc. Guess what? It ain't gonna happen. Kiss the Green Sea Turtle's ass ladies and gentlemen cuz he's sayin' bye-bye. The machine is grinding him into history. I've said this in the past, but I'll say it again. Humans will destroy a large part of the natural world, but eventually nature will have its revenge. Because we are so shortsighted. We're going to snap something in the world - it could be that global warming reaches a point where no matter what we do we won't be able to reverse it or it could be something else - and then nature will have its revenge and wipe out most of humanity. It's like the machine said in the Matrix, humans are a virus. Of course, the machines were no better, but that's another point. |
