11-17-01

Since I'm writing after midnight, I guess this is officially November 18th. But I've never believed in officialness. Tonight, we went over to our friends' place (Tiberius, Jenny & Samantha) to see Tiberius, Elwood, and Preddy. We hadn't seen Preddy since he'd gotten back from New York. He's an actor (they're all actors) who went with a show to New York planning to move to there; he has some family there. After the show, he got an agent and got some auditions, but finding work was tough. And then 911 happened and work totally dried up. He decided to move back to Chicago. It's good to have him back, but it sucks things didn't work out for him in NY. Tiberius showed us the new X-Box that a friend of his had bought and left at his apartment for a few days. If you're an obsessive, computer gaming nerd type of person then the graphics on Xbox will be pretty impressive.

Tiberius had been playing the X-Box all day. Obviously, a computer nerd. His brain was fried, and he was having a hard time keepin' it together. I would say to him, "Keep it toGETHER, MAN!" He was a bit off-balance, which was quite amusing. So, we baked a few brownies and had a rousing good time. Elwood wouldn't stop imitating Jiminy Glick who annoys me to death. However, his Brak to my Zorak is excellent.

Then we went to sing Karaoke at a bar around the corner. I'm not into Karaoke, but they're all good singers, so it's fun to hear them perform. I did once scare a house of half Asian Christians at a Karaoke bar. One of my other actor friends, who is now in NY, used to live in LA. He took me to a Karaoke bar a few blocks away from his apartment. Before we went, we hung out for a while with the landlord's nephew; he was around 19, used to be in a gang in LA until he moved away. Now that he's back he carries a big gun in his pants at all times which he showed us. I held it, and it's creepy.

The bar was packed with 30-something Asian folk in business attire. At least six of them sang stirring Christian songs…in Chinese even! I went up and sang a song by the Dead Milkmen, Punk Rock Girl, and that jarred them a bit. Later I sang a Nirvana song and stumbled around the stage screaming, Cobain-esque. When I was done, I think half of them left.

Anyway, goodnight.
