Man, the Taliban really suck. I mean, sure the U.S. has been responsible for many mass murders (Cambodia, for example), but that doesn't make the Taliban suck any less. Murder always sucks. I saw a video this morning of the women in Afghanistan getting beaten in the head with sticks. And the point blank executions in the head. Goddamn that's shit. Although, considering that the U.S. still endorses the death penalty, we're really doing the same thing. Except of course that the Taliban kill these women just for being women. Although, when you come down to it, it's still government endorsed murder. It's just that we have a different set of laws justifying whom and why we murder. We'd have a much more morally stable ground to stand on if the Supreme Court overturned the death penalty.

The great international shame of the U.S. is that our foreign policy has long been dominated by selecting interests and allies that support corporate interests and American economic policy. Human rights has always been a slim to none second. If we had had strong principles supporting human rights and used all the powers at our disposal to end suffering around the world, then the Taliban would never have been allowed to get away with treating women, essentially, as slaves. But that's another world, ladies and gentlemen. One we don't live in.
