I ran into a friend I haven't seen in a couple months. He's an editor at Encyclopedia Britannica, and he also writes a column for ESPN.com analyzing Dennis Miller's obscure references during Monday Night Football. Commentary on commentary, if you will. He, like myself, has had many ideas for novels and screenplays but hasn't dug in and written them. He made a comment today that resonated powerfully with me. (He's always got insightful bonmots on many subjects.) I asked him if he was working on any creative projects, and he said he's been really busy at work (much like me). But the real kicker is that he does that Dennis Miller column every week now so that's his "creative work" for the week. I do this e-journal, so that's my "creative work" for the week. I can feel satisfied because at least I'm doing something. But I'm not working on a new book or paintings. I have all these big projects in mind I'm pondering, but I haven't tackled any of them yet. I watch too much TV. I despise that box yet I'm addicted to it.

Who am I kidding - I'm never satisfied.
