Quimby's hosted the book
release party for David David Katzman's new novel Death by Zamboni
It was a hell of a fun
party. There were, oh, probably 50 people there. My friends Pat Hilander
and Eric Daly graciously agreed to spin some phunky phat tunes for
the celebration. Pat - painter and DJ - opened the evening with some
Drum 'n Bass, mellow and tasty, while we popped a few bottles of Champaign,
wine, vodka and gin. I only had one glass because I wanted to maintain
my wits for the impending reading. I felt nervous but excited. Soon,
I began reading from the book. Wow, people actually listened! That's
quite a cool feeling. No one was munching on potato chips or noticeably
hacking up sputum, and they laughed at every single humorous niblet.
I couldn't have been happier.

Afterwards, Eric - also
a hairstylist at the Heart & Soul Salon in Lincoln Park, Chicago
(he's great, by the way - go get your damn hair cut there) laid down
some energetic but smooth Trance to keep the party going. The Quimby's
store represented by Hannah and Shappy, seemed quite pleased with
the festivities and free alcohol. You know it was a great party because
Shappy somehow broke his glasses, taped them up with duct tape and
doesn't remember how he got home. But he did wake up fully clothed
with tape all over his face. There may or may not have been a fight
outside after 2am, but we don't think it was anyone we knew involved,
and we don't condone fights unless they are with Congressman, especially
Republicans. In summation, a good time was had by all. --DDK
